After a string of demanding, high-profile jobs in journalism, the federal government and private business, Hamilton sat down in his Burlington, Ont. home and started writing a crime novel. Less than three months later, he had finished it and was well into a second. By the time he signed with Toronto publisher House of Anansi in January 2010, he had completed three novels and had started a fourth, all featuring Toronto-based, Chinese-Canadian forensic accountant Ava Lee as the protagonist. Today, Hamilton is halfway through his sixth — with no apparent end in sight.
